THEATRE & LIVE SOUND


Over 30 years working in live sound production for Theatre, Classical & Acoustic music, and on major events both in Australia and throughout Asia, I've built the skills and experience to bring the highest standards of production to your show - whether it is a one-off performance, a show touring multiple venues, or a permanent location-based installation. My current work in Live Sound specialises in Cabaret, Theatre/Cabaret crossover type shows, and Concert sound for Orchestral and Acoustic music genres. I also do Sound Effects design for Theatre - often in collaboration with a Composer or Musical Theatre Sound Designer. My experience and credits fall into three areas:




SOUND FOR LIVE THEATRE

While previously working with System Sound Pty Ltd in Melbourne for 22 years,

I was Sound Designer, Associate Designer or Production Sound Engineer on commercial Touring productions including Annie, The Wizard of Oz, The Producers, Titanic the Musical, Guys and Dolls, Avenue Q, and Mary Poppins, along with many smaller scale shows. I was Sound Operator for the Australian commercial productions of such shows as Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Into The Woods, Mack & Mabel, Thoroughly Modern Millie, 42nd Street, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - and many others. I am equally at home with smaller productions or Cabaret shows - such as Bernadette Robinson's Pennsylvania Avenue and The Show Goes On, and varied presentations such as The Illusionists 2.0.


I have extensive experience in Sound Effects Design for Plays requiring extensive sound effects, environmental ambiences, or source music - such as the 2013-14 Australian Regional Tour of The 39 Steps. I'm happy to collaborate on the Sound Effects element of designs where the Production has also hired a Composer, and I also contribute sound effects design and production to Musicals where the Sound Reinforcement design is by others. I have worked extensively as a Production Sound Engineer and Operator for Australian State and touring theatre companies. I have an in-depth command of the various theatre playback software packages, and how best to configure them for use by a sound operator or stage manager as is appropriate for the show - and how to program them so shows can be easily adjusted for venue moves. I maintain an extensive library of commercial and original sound effects.




SOUND FOR CABARET, ORCHESTRAL & ACOUSTIC MUSIC

I've had extensive experience in live sound production for Orchestral, Opera, Cabaret and other acoustic music forms. Opera concert work includes artists such as Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Andrea Boccelli, David Hobson, and Teddy Tahu Rhodes. I have engineered and mixed fully-staged Arena productions of Verdi's opera AIDA, The English National Ballet's production of Swan Lake, and Victoria State Opera's Puccini Spectacular. Outdoor and Arena Orchestral concert work includes the Melbourne, Adelaide, Hong Kong, and Singapore Symphony Orchestras, the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, Korea's KBS Orchestra and many others, with soloists including David Helfgott and Yo Yo Ma. International Cabaret artists I have mixed include Michael Feinstein, Joel Grey, Andrea Marcovicci and Jerry Lewis, and I've looked after sound for many of Australia's best-known Music Theatre performers, including Marina Prior, Bernadette Robinson, and Silvie Paladino, in concert, cabaret or corporate functions.



SOUND FOR EVENTS


I've had the opportunity to mix and engineer sound for many major events over the years, both in Australia and Internationally - especially those with an Orchestral element to them. I've worked a wide variety of Celebrity speaking Tours, Awards shows, Media launches and other State and Corporate events often with complex ceremonial or performance elements.
